MEDIC FIRST AID President Bill Clendenen participated in medical history in January by attending the 2005 International Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Science with Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR) in Dallas, Texas. The conference was organized and hosted by the American Heart Association.
For nearly a year, MEDIC FIRST AID and other national and international groups have been researching the effectiveness of various first aid treatments. Last month, these medical experts began the process of finalizing the development of these new first aid guidelines that will be used in creating adult first aid programs worldwide. The committee reviews medical recommendations before submitting them for approval. The public will likely learn about the committee's findings in November.
Clendenen, along with other internationally recognized experts, was invited by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) to evaluate and form an expert consensus on scientific evidence related to the improvement of CPR, ECC, and emergency first aid care. The conference will result in recommendations for changes in treatment guidelines for medical emergencies. This process is conducted every five to seven years with the last one occurring in 2000.
