MEDIC FIRST AID® Launches Professional Liability Insurance Program for CPR, First Aid, and OSHA Safety Instructors
Jul 21, 2004

MEDIC FIRST AID is now offering professional liability insurance covering CPR, First Aid, AED, and OSHA Safety instructors. A range of affordable and flexible plans provide insurance against claims made by third parties–typically clients–that have alleged negligence in the rendering of, or failure to render, professional services.

Anyone in the emergency care training industry should consider getting coverage–from CPR and first aid instructors to workplace health and safety consultants. Professional liability coverage provided by a current employer likely does not cover independent training performed outside that specific workplace.

“Unfortunately, not carrying liability insurance is a huge risk for instructors, one that we think we’ve minimized by partnering with Hays Affinity Solutions,” said MEDIC FIRST AID CEO Chris Bennett. “We searched extensively to find the right company and the right plan to help protect the professional and personal financial interests of our instructors. We believe the assurance it brings also will bring peace of mind,” he added.

Facilitators seeking more information should consult the Insurance Program page for more information and links to an extensive Web site that details individual plans and explains the basics of professional liability in simple terms. A thorough Resource Center provides answers to commonly asked questions, industry-related links, and an on line application form. A dedicated phone line (888-767-2159) is available to speak with a Customer Service representative.

Each plan can be tailored to fit individual needs. Plan limits range from $100,000/$300,000 (Limit per Claim/Annual Aggregate Limit) up to $2,000,000/$4,000,000. Group discounts are available, as well as reduced rates based on experience. Optional coverage enhancements exclusive to the MEDIC FIRST AID plan include Limited Defense for sexual assault allegations, coverage for AIDS related training, and Bodily Injury and Property Damage due to performance of instructor professional services.

Policies in this professional liability insurance program are issued through certain underwriters at Lloyd’s of London, and administered by Hays Affinity Solutions. Lloyd’s of London is the second largest commercial insurer and sixth largest reinsurer in the world. Hays specializes in delivering insurance products, technology solutions, and risk management consulting services. They offer comprehensive financial and insurance services for all aspects of an organization’s needs, from benefit plans to insurance programs.

About the Insurance Program Partners

MEDIC FIRST AID is excited to enter into partnership with Hays Affinity Solutions and Lloyd’s of London to provide MEDIC FIRST AID Facilitators and training centers with an inexpensive and comprehensive professional liability insurance program. Hays Solutions will implement the insurance coverage, which is underwritten by Lloyd’s of London.

Hays Affinity Solutions
Hays Affinity Solutions is a part of Hays Companies, a dynamic, growing organization focused on providing innovative, value-added insurance and risk management solutions. Hays focuses on building client partnerships with an aim toward remaining the premier insurance brokerage firm.

Hays Companies was founded in 1994 by James C. Hays and five senior-level individuals from major insurance brokerage firms. A privately held corporation, Hays was created in response to consolidation of the financial services industry particularly that of large, retail insurance brokerage firms. The company’s premise was to fill the void of creativity and quality service left in the wake of corporate mega mergers.

Hays’ brokerage team numbers over 400 people providing service internationally from offices in Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, Los Angeles, London, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Phoenix, St. Louis, and Washington D.C. This wide ranging presence has made Hays Companies a leading insurance broker.

Lloyd’s of London
Famous for the esoteric insurance coverage it offers (they insured Entertainment Tonight host Mary Hart’s legs for more than one million dollars!), Lloyd’s of London isn’t actually an insurance company. It’s an insurance market of members and is a top conduit for aviation and marine insurance, as well as specialty insurance, such as policies covering art and jewelry or protecting against acts of terrorism.

Members of Lloyd’s, or “capital providers” as they are often known, accept insurance business through syndicates on a several basis for their own profit and loss (in other words, members of Lloyd’s are not jointly responsible for each other’s losses).

The membership of Lloyd’s is currently made up of companies, individuals, and Scottish Limited Partnerships. Individual members, or ‘Names’ as they are often known, tend to support a number of syndicates, whereas some corporate members only underwrite through a single syndicate.
