MEDIC FIRST AID® announces the launch of MEDIC OneSource, a comprehensive solution for the implementation and maintenance of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in the workplace. AEDs are the most effective early treatment of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), a major occupational health issue.
MEDIC OneSource addresses the critical need for a one stop, one source solution for school districts, single- and multi-site businesses, commercial and non-profit groups, and other organizations looking to implement an early defibrillation program. As information about the major threat of SCA continues to spread, businesses have begun to seriously consider adding AEDs.
''SCA is a major health issue in the workplace and bystander defibrillation with an AED is the most effective treatment we have to reverse it,'' said Bill Clendenen, president of MEDIC FIRST AID. Addressing public misconceptions about defibrillation programs as complex and difficult to implement, Clendenen notes that this reluctance keeps proven life-saving care from being made available.
''It's tragic," Chris Bennett, chief executive officer of MEDIC FIRST AID added. "MEDIC OneSource addresses this head on by bringing simplicity to early defibrillation programs. It helps organizations get beyond any difficulties by offering a complete set of services that makes defibrillator implementation worry-free.''
MEDIC OneSource is made up of the four primary components necessary to implement a successful defibrillation program: AEDs, AED training, medical direction, and program management.
MEDIC FIRST AID and its MEDIC OneSource distributors, in partnership with Philips Medical Systems, offer the Philips HeartStart FR2+ and HeartStart OnSite defibrillators, considered the easiest to operate and understand AEDs in the industry. MEDIC FIRST AID Instructors provide AED training across the nation using our award-winning training programs.
Medical direction, in conjunction with MD Solutions, takes care of AED prescriptions, consultation after an incident of use, and a range of other services that ensure programs are current and effective. Finally, MEDIC FIRST AID's technology team has just released MEDIC OneSource Manager™, an online application that allows companies to manage their devices, students, and classes from the comfort of a computer workstation.
SCA is a leading cause of death in the United States, striking every two minutes, resulting in over 250,000 deaths a year. Most SCA victims die because defibrillation-an electric shock to the heart and the most effective treatment for SCA-isn't readily available. AEDs have changed that. An AED used by a bystander within a few minutes of SCA onset can significantly increase a patient's chances of survival.
''According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, thirteen percent of workplace fatalities are due to SCA,'' said Bill Rowe, paramedic and director of program development at MEDIC FIRST AID. ''This means AED implementation is a critical part of ensuring that a business or organization is prepared to handle these workplace medical emergencies.''
