MEDIC FIRST AID® Advanced First Aid Supplement to Debut at Conference 2003
Oct 9, 2003

EUGENE, OR - October 9, 2003 - Medic First Aid Conference 2003 will mark the debut of the Advanced First Aid Supplement, the latest Medic First Aid Training Program. Two Advanced First Aid training sessions scheduled for the Portland, Oregon conference will give instructors a first look at the program. Designed for individuals likely to respond to a medical emergency, Advanced First Aid bridges the gap between the basic first aid provider and professional emergency medical services responders. Potential students include police officers, firefighters, lifeguards, and industrial emergency response team members.

"Advanced First Aid is a versatile program that fills a major void in emergency care training," said Bill Clendenen, president of Medic First Aid. The program can be combined with basic CPR and first aid training, or it may be conducted as a supplement for individuals who have already completed basic CPR and first aid training. Featuring segmentation and flexibility in its design, Advanced First Aid easily combines with other Medic First Aid Training Programs to create customized training packages for occupational responders.

As an additional benefit, if instructors combine the Medic First Aid Basic, AED, Bloodborne, and Emergency Oxygen programs along with the Advanced First Aid Supplement, students can apply for a special Advanced Training Certificate, identifying them as a more highly trained occupational provider. This special certificate recognizes successful completion of the most ideal training combination for an occupational provider likely to respond in a medical emergency.

The addition of Integrated Scenario Practices and Evaluations continues the tradition of innovative Medic First Aid educational instruction. Teams work with team leaders to manage a variety of real-life emergency scenarios from assessment through resolution. These new additions foster response team communication and acquaint students with the complexities of real-life problems through knowledge and skill application.

Advanced First Aid Supplement segments include Ethical and Legal Issues; the various Body Systems; Advanced Initial Assessment; Obtaining a Patient History; and Patient Care Report. Depending on student needs, optional specific first aid topics may be included at the instructor's discretion. They include Bag-Valve-Mask, Suctioning, Oral Airways, Incident Command System, and Understanding Emergency Childbirth.
