Rescue breathing kept this child alive until EMS could get to this rural location

EVENT: Three-year-old Grayce, a non-swimmer, had taken off her life vest and stepped into water over her head. Another child noticed her floating face down in the pool.
Joe Raimond was visiting with the children and their mother at poolside. The mother pulled Grayce from the water, but did not know CPR. Joe performed an Initial Assessment. After several rescue breaths and a pulse check, some water was expelled. Grayce gasped, but then stopped breathing. Joe continued rescue breathing until Grayce arched her back, flailed her arms, and began breathing independently.
Joe monitored the child for the long period of time it took EMS to reach their rural location. The girl was rushed to a hospital. She was released hours later and Joe happily reported she was "doing fine."
